We’re glad you are interested in OIC! We know the financial aid process can often be intimidating, so we are here to help. Here are some helpful links and information for getting started.
- The first step to applying for financial aid is creating an FSA ID. This will be necessary to fill out the FAFSA. If you are a dependent student (under the age of 24, not married, or have no children), your parent or guardian will also need his or her own FSA ID.
- Make sure you are filling out the correct FAFSA based on the year you are going to enter school. For Instance, if you are entering before July 1, 2017, then you will want to fill out the 16-17 FAFSA. if you have any questions about this, feel free to call us.
- The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the starting point for financial aid. It is a federal form used to determine your eligibility for aid. All federal aid and most state aid is determined from the FAFSA.
- The Parent PLUS Loan is a federal loan that the parent’s take out to help with school costs for their child. Not everyone will find the PLUS Loan to be necessary. You may want to discuss this option and details about the PLUS Loan with the Financial Aid officer, after the student’s FAFSA is complete.
